Why Brian Miller Will Defeat Gabrielle Giffords
70First, The Primary
ALERT!! BRIAN MILLER SUSPENDS CAMPAIGN!! DETAILS HERE!!
Why am I writing about the general election when Brian Miller has to get past the Arizona primary in August to face incumbent Democrat Gabrielle Giffords in a shootout for her seat in the U.S. House of Representatives? Am I that sure he'll defeat his competitors for the Republican nomination?
Yep. This year, as We the People move to reset our government, I am that sure. True, every single one of us in Arizona Congressional District 8 who gives a hoot, a holler, or even a hiccup has got to get to the polls on August 24 in order to make that a done deal. But you know what? This year, that. Will. Happen. It will happen, and Brian Miller will get the Republican nod. He's got the strengths the others do not, the others have blemishes he does not, and the voters know it.
Or if they don't, give me a holler. I'll fill you in.
Gabrielle Giffords may or may not see Brian coming, but she and the entire Democratic party are gearing up to defend her seat. An article in the Arizona Daily Star on July 23 makes that abundantly clear. A few excerpts:
DEMS AIM TO SHIELD 40 VULNERABLE SEATS
WASHINGTON--The Democrats' strategy to try to preserve their House majority became clearer Thursday as the party made a $28 million investment in television advertising for the final weeks of the fall campaign.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
3 ARIZ. DISTRICTS. Of Arizona's eight House members, five are Democrats. Of those five, here are the three getting special attention from the Democratic campaign committee.
+ Ann Kirkpatrick, 1st District
+ Harry Mitchell, 5th
+ Gabrielle Giffords, 8th
It's hardly a mystery why the Democrats would mark out Gaby as one of the Representatives they want to protect any way they can. Think of her as Nancy Pelosi Lite. She's known Congress-wide as a rising star in the tax-and-spend party and Pelosi's protege, possibly even a future President of the United States.
Nor is it difficult to predict how the Democrats will attempt to provide that protection. Essentially, here as elsewhere, the standard Progressive three-pronged approach will be applied liberally (pun intended):
1. Find something negative to say about her Republican opponent.
2. Run a smear campaign with millions of dollars spent on TV attack ads.
3. Avoid the actual issues.
Unfortunately for her reelection chances, it won't work this time.
And Why Not?
Some readers are probably pretty sure I've lost it this time. They've seen Giffords pounding the airwaves with personal statements and slick ads that do a really nice job of painting her as a fierce defender of Arizona's border, a blue dog Democrat with both bark and bite. It's as obvious as the shine on my bald head that she considers herself impeccably ready to hammer any opponent on this one issue most important to Arizonans as a whole.
She'll push it, too. She actually believes she's made her case already.
Bad move. It'll put her right in Brian Miller's wheelhouse. To get an idea of what I'm talking about here, a quick read of Brian Miller On Border Issues or Brian's own website will show you what I mean. He's got a comprehensive and sensible plan for the border that puts her meager, narrow-scoped approach to utter shame.
Not to mention her previous stance in favor of open borders, her attempting to take credit for the National Guard troops Governor Brewer snagged for us, and her loud opposition to the SB 1070 illegal immigration law favored by the majority of Arizona residents.
Miller will leave her sputtering in the dust.
Oh, that three pronged attack? Heh. Consider this:
1. She can't find anything negative to say about Brian because there aren't any skeletons in his closet or any political baggage chained to his ankle. The other Republican candidates? Oh, you betcha. They could be character-assassinated (in political mudslinging terms) right back to the civilian labor pool. But not Mr. Miller. He's clean, he's tough as Sarah Palin, and he (*gasp!*) thinks before he speaks.
2. While a smear campaign will no doubt still be attempted, it'll either be pathetically anemic or it'll backfire like throwing a stick at a buffalo (bison) in Yellowstone National Park just to get a more interesting photo.
Yes, some fool woman actually did that. The buff jumped and bucked in startlement when struck, then charged and ran over the lady. Duh. It was on the news a few days ago.
3. When nothing else works, Giffords will be literally forced to talk about the issues. Nature abhors a vacuum, remember?
Wow. Will she ever get ground into the pavement on the issues. Obamacare alone is enough to cost her the election. Her euphoria when Health Care Deformed was finally rammed through Congress against the will of the people...that was the trigger. My head exploded. On the spot, I declared myself her dedicated political enemy, writing Giving Giffords The Gaff that same night.
Ah. Sorry. Drifted off there for a bit. Having a beautiful daydream, you know? A televised debate between Brian Miller and Gabrielle Giffords. The incumbent is super-confident. Her opponent is a rookie, she tells her staff; how tough could he be? Then she finds out...in front of a live TV audience with no place to hide. There isn't a hot button issue in this race that Brian hasn't researched and analyzed with enormous care and a skill bordering on genius. His website alone makes that clear, and he's even better in person than he is with the printed word.
That's why--or at least part of why--Brian Miller will defeat Gabrielle Giffords in November. Now, come August 24....

God Hub Ghost.
It seems to me that the best thing that anyone targeted for a smear campaign will have going for them is our own recognition that 'it is politics as usual', and that the smear is backed by those who convey the attitude of 'being annointed to do it to the people', rather than 'being elected to do it for the people'.
Remember in November.
