Romney Slam-Dunks Florida, and the Beat Goes On

66

By Ghost32

A Primary Poem to Close January (With a Twist)

The job is never done, and freedom is not free

That's not a bad thing, you know; it's just reality

In Florida the vote came in and Mitt came out ahead

Newt is touting second but his face is kind of red

Santorum placing third and Ron Paul way down in fourth

Now they're all off to Nevada; primary season runs its course

It's hard to like the Speaker when he pushes hard at Rick

To get out of the race so his own numbers might uptick

====================================================

Santorum's ticked at Gingrich's condescending way

"Get out yourself, you jerk!" Is what he'd really likely like to say

The pundits are all punditing that now Romney's got the lead

His mantle of electability is right back up to speed

Those of us who watch it all need to care and to remember

All the folks who'll make the difference come Election in November

I've talked to dozens out there who at this point have no clue

Ask them about ol' Newt or Mitt and they will ask, "Mitt who?"

====================================================

We're going to need a candidate--yes, this is indeed essential

A candidate who on TV looks entirely Presidential

Santorum still could do it, and young Bella makes him human

But the negatives for Gingrich are best described as truly boomin'

While Mitt has got that radio voice and the camera does not hate him

Let's put a poll right in here so you readers get to rate him

See all 5 photos

Mitt Romney TV Personality Rating Poll

Which response best describes your impression of Mitt Romney as seen on TV?

  • Entirely Presidential; visually, at least, he's got all the right stuff.
  • Don't talk to me about Romney, Ghost; I still can't stand that guy.
  • He doesn't look that good to me on TV, just ANOTHER snake oil salesman.
  • I prefer to remain naive and believe that looks don't matter.
  • Mitt's okay on TV, but Obama beat him all hollow with his Al Green rendition.
  • I like his looks , but I could be biased just because he's still with his first wife.
See results without voting

Now, just in case a few of you think Mitt is looking handsome

Ann is his First Lady, worth a Presidential ransom

Newt, he dumped a woman when she came down with MS

While Ann has got the same durn thing--is Mitt still with her? Yes!

That's got to count for something if we really give a hang

For character, integrity, that hard-to-pin-down thang

Me, myself, I understand the beauty that is Ann

Like Pam, she's sicker than she looks; she fakes it 'cause she can

No, not a chance, at least not yet, that I have flipped for Romney

Though any candidate out there beats Barack on the economy

But lest you start accusing ol' Ghost of playing favoritism

Here's a shot of Newt, a bit of photographical baptism

To follow Fearless Leader's plea to make it all quite fair

I guess for now we ought to stick to guys with pure white hair

Which means (yes, you're ahead of me), the wildest one of all

Full of foreign policy naivete, Representative Ron Paul

Which leaves the Pennsylvania dude, who's out with Paul a-gambling

Though Nevada's really Romney-land where many Mormons go a-rambling

And though I took a lot of pics while Rick was maybe playing poker

In the only happy one I found he looks a whole lot like The Joker!

Dear readers. you may think I've lost my marbles; it's a pity

But we've been electing Presidents on the basis of who's pretty

Bush was not Miss Universe but beat John Kerry and Al Gore

And while Snooki thinks McCain is cute, Obama's cuter more

So you see, I've solved the electability mystery

We just need to nominate a beauty and Obama will be history!

"eh" it's only one election.... He hardly has near the number he needs to win the nomination.

Well, if you want my opinion, the ideas of "carnal man" are plaguing them. That's why it's so much uproar with in the political system right now. The world is seeking change but on the physical level. Change isn't going to come about within a Corporation(USA). Man's rule is no longer to help the people but themselves for power. The Great GOD's angry today is exposing all the defects right now. It's time for us to put faith in TRUTH and not in the aggressive ideas of man.

Newt has way too many negatives, and the media would exploit them all to help their guy, Barry!

Romney is the one.

WOW Ghost, that was the most fun I have had reading about these guys!!! And even more, it all made perfect sense!

I really liked the lines...

That's got to count for something if we really give a hang

For character, integrity, that hard-to-pin-down thang

The word THANG, won me over....

I'm sitting on my hands right now...still not ready to raise one up and declare my winner.

EXCELLENT HUB, btw!

They ALL scare me, but whomever lands at the top of the heap is getting my vote, I don't want to hear the "dirty" fighting and yes they are not playing nice. I don't care how much mud can be found about any of them, I think our past is what makes us who we are today, I just want to know if they can do the job.

FIX the economy, then change the political game.

I hate when people play games with OUR country, the constitution was meant to be used , not to ignored...

Is it even still on display? It should be. Every citizen should own a copy. I do.

Fred - Florida isn't indicative of the rest of the nation. I grew up there and parts of it now are like living in the friggin' northeast part of the country.

It won't be over until the fat lady sings.

Kate: Understood.

QUIZ2012: That's one viewpoint. I don't personally see the Creator is bothering to get "angry" over our little human peccadilloes, and I also figure our free will gives us the opportunity to have a sizeable say in how things go. But that's just me.

Will: I'm thinking along those lines as well. Seems to me that the harder he's hit (whether by the loss in S. Carolina or the attacks from Gingrich), the better Romney's been getting as a candidate. And I have to admit Newt has spooked me from the beginning.

Chris: Absolutely. My "hand goes up" for WHOEVER wins the nomination on the ABO ticket. But I'm definitely hoping it's not Gingrich.

Thanks for the kudos.

Mary: I'd guess the vast majority of this Hub's readers do possess copies of the Constitution. A lot of us even have spare copies we can hand out to others when the opportunity arises.

Frog: Yeah, Jim, I know about Florida. I was BORN there, actually--but got out at 6 months of age. (Dad was Navy, WWII, stationed at Pensacola at the time of my stage entrance.) Been back only rarely, and not once has it gone smoothly.

You're definitely right about the fat lady; nobody's saying it's over by a long shot. Not even those pundits who are all punditing....

I found myself a new copy at the minnesota state fair this last year, I don't remember what kind of a booth it was in, I am guessing some politically connected one, the people there tried so hard to get me on board with their organization that they scared me away.

Yeah, there are a few folks here and there who still think the hard sell is the way to go. Fortunately, most of us are a little sharper than that.

Loved you poem and your thinking. I am coming around to believe that Romney is the only one with a chance to beat Obama.

Ghost32 profile image

Ghost32 Hub Author 3 months ago

I believe Santorum could do it (beat Obama) as well. But unless Gingrich implodes completely, Rick doesn't appear to have a way up the ladder to the nomination.

Oh, just vote for the cannibal you like best, but Newt? AKKK! He was there when they disinacted the banks boundaries, and you know it. Where does such folly end? I will not ponder with you the results. They're all pig scum now, Fred, just scrape it off your boots, and go kill a rattlesnake. I'll hold 'em down. lily

LOL! Thanks, Lily. I was hoping to get a volunteer to hold 'em down.

I don't quite see all the candidates as "pig scum"...but will admit Newt has made my neck hairs crawl from the get-go.

I have not been fond of Newt ever. He just has too much of the 'force them to do what you want' thing going. He is too much of a politician to make me happy. I know that you need to have a political background of some type to be President, but his is too much. Then there is the fact that he left his sick wife. Ticked people off.

Mitt will be held back by the fact that he is Mormon and Christians look at Mormonism as a cult. Bad news for him since he is conservative. A lot of Christians in the conservative side.

I have nothing else to say about Ron Paul except that I think he is nuts if he thinks we are going to be left alone just because he pulls in the military. It is not in the bad guys make-up to leave us alone. We will have to have a good military presence.

Santorum seems to be lacking something but I have not figured out what yet. I will leave my analysis of him until I do. Good hub, would have been by sooner but have had some problems and couldn't think about politics at the time.

Ghost32 profile image

Ghost32 Hub Author 3 months ago

There have been many times when I couldn't think about politics, either. Here's hoping you got your problems "handled".

Also, great analyses. I don't think Mitt will be held back in the GENERAL election because of being a Mormon. When the other guy is a Muslim, it's a no-brainer.

Becky Katz profile image

Becky Katz Level 8 Commenter 3 months ago

You are right there. Most Christians have it figured out that he is not. Shoot, most of the country has it figured out that he is not. Especially, when he does things like cancel the Christian day of prayer that has been going on for decades but has a Muslim day of prayer on the White House lawn. Kind of hits you over the head with it. I hear he had the Christian day of prayer this year, but then he is in campaign mode.

As for the problems, they are less than last week but still more than I want to put up with. Court Friday for the dug up stuff. Wonder how much that one is going to cost me?

Ghost32 profile image

Ghost32 Hub Author 3 months ago

Dug up stuff??

Becky Katz profile image

Becky Katz Level 8 Commenter 3 months ago

Yeah, when they were taking David to jail for domestic violence against me, he heard the officer telling dispatch to see what they could find on me and dig deep. In the first place, David did nothing but yell and I yelled back. I told the officer that he did not touch me or even threaten me but he told the magistrate that David threw things at me. Now there is a restraining order on David. I did not ask for it or want it. People get in arguments occasionally.

When they dug, they found a check that I wrote 8 years ago. I deposited a check in the bank and they did not tell me that they hold insurance checks for 10 days. A bunch of checks bounced and I thought I got them all taken care of but I missed one. An 8 year old warrant for a $25 check and it will probably cost me about $400. I doubt the judge is going to like my explanation. The other judge didn't. They don't believe that the banks would forget to tell you something.

Ghost32 profile image

Ghost32 Hub Author 3 months ago

Wow. Gotta love the system.

That was sarcasm, in case you couldn't tell. Got some "great" judge stories of my own that might, come to think of it, make a worthy Hub. Someday. Fortunately for me, none of them are tales of my personal woe, but "only" the woe of those close to me....

Becky Katz profile image

Becky Katz Level 8 Commenter 3 months ago

I said they were crooks here and if you didn't have a record when you got here, you would when you left. I went 45 years without even getting a ticket. I had to go to jail a couple of years ago. This place has the stupidest legal system I have ever seen. And I have seen a lot of them, from the other side.

Ghost32 profile image

Ghost32 Hub Author 3 months ago

Uh...you did say it was time to get the heck out of there, right?

Becky Katz profile image

Becky Katz Level 8 Commenter 3 months ago

Yeah,it is hard to do with no money. HOW DO you type with an affectionate cat in the way?

Ghost32 profile image

Ghost32 Hub Author 3 months ago

Umm...very carefully?

Actually, Gato has pretty much grown out of the cat-in-the-way syndrome. For the time (some months) that he was parked between my chest and my keyboard, he was mostly more kitten than cat. But either way, I've got long arms, so kind of snuggling and reaching around him wasn't that difficult. Did kind of put the fingers at odd angles to the keyboard, but hey.

Now, he just parks himself atop the CPU mini-tower and sleeps there while I'm typing. Hangs over both the sides and the ends, but somehow makes it work.

She has decided that I am her person for the week. She won't stay off my desk. If I am not scratching-caressing her, she gets up and walks between me and the monitor, with her tail dragging across my nose. I am semi-allergic to cats so this is really making me miserable.

Ghost32 profile image

Ghost32 Hub Author 3 months ago

Now, that WOULD be a problem. Pam is allergic, but fortunately, I'm not.

Becky Katz profile image

Becky Katz Level 8 Commenter 3 months ago

It just makes my sinus' stuffy and my nose itch abominably but that is miserable.

Ghost32 profile image

Ghost32 Hub Author 3 months ago

Understood. Pam's not quite that miserable around our cats, though some are a lot worse. My ex #5 couldn't even get close without being at severe risk--within an hour of being in the same room with a cat, she could barely breathe.
