Operation Foul and Filthy : FBI and DEA KNEW Guns were in Arizona, Failed to Warn Border Patrol

Breaking news: Veteran Border Patrol agent Brian Terry is still dead.

The opening paragraph from a September 9 (2011) Fox News article by William Lajeunesse states:

"A third gun linked to "Operation Fast and Furious" was found at the murder scene of Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry, new documents obtained exclusively by Fox News suggest, contradicting earlier assertions by federal agencies that police found only two weapons tied to the federal government's now infamous gun interdiction scandal."

Nor is that the worst of it. The FBI is stonewalling (naturally), but between information developed through Congressional oversight investigations and various emails uncovered in the months since Terry's death, it seems virtually certain that:

A. The FBI had at least one, and most likely more than one, high ranking stone cold killer informant within the Sinaloa drug cartel whom the agency wished to protect.

B. The third weapon, actually the first one found at the scene (of the gunfight in which Brian Terry died) was an SKS purchased in Texas specifically for that informant in the cartel.

C. Both the FBI and the DEA knew very well that this and other weapons were in Arizona prior to the time of the confrontation between Border Patrol agents but chose not to warn the Border Patrol what they were walking into.

I remember being at a rodeo in Montana in 1961 where we all watched a saddle bronc rider (and a good friend of mine) get bucked off, hung up, kicked, and stomped. One of us exclaimed, "If he ain't dead, he oughta be!"

Fast forward to today, to the FUBAR government "walking guns" operation officially known as Operation Fast and Furious but which I've come to think of as Operation Foul and Filthy:

If you ain't ticked off by this yet, you oughta be!

That SKS rifle? Oh, it was made to "disappear", because it could more easily be traced to the straw man purchase in Texas than could the two AK-47 shooters we've all heard about from the beginning.

Not that tracing those two proved to be all that difficult, eh?

The biggest clinker in this whole cinder pile? Well...that would be the question: Who, pray tell, was the coordinating hand guiding all these agencies in their nefarious, illegal, incredibly off the wall and unbelievably unwise (I'd say "idiotic" but the word's not strong enough) activities? We now know that at least the following agencies had their fingers in the stewpot:

1. DOJ (Department of Justice. Yeah, right.)

2. FBI (Federal Bureau of Investigation.)

3. DEA (Drug Enforcement Agency.)

4. BP (Border Patrol--yes, the Border Patrol itself was involved in Operation Foul and Filthy to at least some degree, but certainly the field agents with their butts on the line were not given the information they needed to adequately protect themselves.)

5. BATFE (Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives.)

That last one is instructive, come to think of it. Bureau OF...Firearms...? Guess so. They were strongly involved in pushing these firearms into cartel hands, so apparently they truly are the Bureau OF Firearms....

When everything else gets all shaken out and settled (if it ever does), "somebody" needs to come up with a less honest name for that outfit.

But I digress. Back to the question: Who was truly running (from the top) this dog and pony show? Early reports tended to point toward the DOJ as having the heaviest hand on the tiller. That may or may not turn out the be the case when everything comes to light, but let's go with that for a moment.

At the very least, that would mean the Attorney General, Eric sue-Arizona Holder, was calling the shots. Which could even be true; the man does have a track record of making truly terrible decisions over the years. He's denying it, of course, but of course he would have to do that. Unless he were an honorable man who stepped down from his post in chagrin when--

Hey. Cut out the uncontrollable laughing. I can't hear myself type.

Okay, let's go with the strong suspicion that Holder was the kingpin, or was at least kept well informed about Operation Foul and Filthy. Do we then presume that, to protect his beloved President, he never once told Obama what was going on?

You're laughing again! Knock it off!

The plot thickens.

Fred, I am afraid discovering the true king pins of this stupid and failed program will prove nearly impossible. It would take someone stepping forward and telling the whole truth to make this happen, and that ain't likely to happen. You can almost bet that Eric, sue-Arizona, Holder will skate right out of this and walk away clean. His kind always do.

Thank you for writing this Mr. Ghost. I have heard a lot on this story and a lot more has yet to be revealed. It is quite troubling ...

All the best.

I can't even think about this horror show without smoke pouring out of my ears. The disregard for the Border Patrol by GWB was bad enough. But now, I do not have the civil words to express my anger over this whole Charlie-Foxtrot. Barrack Obama's government lets is behind show, again.

Mike: You're likely right. The one encouraging thing about all of this is that more and more "stuff" DOES keep getting uncovered, thanks to a number of hardcore patriots and actual investigative journalists.

starme77: Thanks for the Facebook link; the more the better.

Mr. Happy: I'm sure there is a lot more yet to be revealed. It was looking like the coverup might have kept the lid on, somewhat, until this morning. Fox News had their newscast on it within minutes after I turned on the TV, and from there it was a matter of surfing the Net.

You bet it's troubling, and back atcha on the best wishes.

uncorrectedvision: You're not alone on the ear-smoke. Or, for that matter, in the belief that B.O.'s government has taken a bad (GWB) situation and (again) made it a thousand times worse.

This almost reminds me of a puppet show.

What if all those government agencies were being used as puppets, each one likely believing their little part was the right thing to do, but none initially having the full visibility that made it clear the overall picture was wrong? Its a control technique. It allows the puppet master to instill a feeling of guilt in the participants as they are made aware of the overall picture and their role in the puppet show, thus obscuring the puppet master that pulls the strings.

Works well until the puppets find out they are being used. And even then, it may work unless the puppets value overall society above self-preservation.

Holder should lose his job over this fiasco. One lie is replaced by another but I am hoping that we will get the whole ugly story out. Let's pray the truth coincides with Holder packing his bags. His departure is long overdue.

Looking back, Nixon was a turd that fed our military to the wolves in war time. Read up on "The Easter Offensive" of 1972 and you'll get a clear shot of the screwing he gave. He did have the heart to resign as he was outed a bit at a time.

Fast forward to this treasonous event and I see similarities of border patrol, armed and arms tied as to "NO ENGAGEMENT" of armed border offenders unless they fire on you first. Now that is a bad situation for the men and women given the responsibility of securing a boarder. Then add the part where the soldiers of the border are "not informed" that the enemy has been armed with the very weapons that account for a big number of names on the Nam Memorial Wall". Think on that!

If your not f--king pissed off at the thought of your government being responsible for these and an undetermined amount of deaths due to this act of shear stupidity, I can't help but think your a waste of good oxygen and food.

Time will show just how dirty this is all the way to the POTUS, as I can't see Holder going down in flames with out, outing obama's knowledge of this affair.

I'm being civil in my verbiage here, but believe me I'm pissed and I also have been firing emails at federal level senators and representatives of all border states to force this issue to the front of the line and get Holders job, obama's impeachment and charges leveled at all leaders involved.

voted up, sending to facebook as well,

Jim: Sounds like a pretty accurate analogy to me. With discovery of the operation, the puppet strings have been cut. So: Will the puppet master remain safely hidden behind the curtain or not? Only time will tell.

BPop: True, and most likely Obama should lose his job over it as well. I have real difficulty imagining Holder and his boss NOT cackling gleefully behind closed doors when they thought their smear-the-gunshops plan was actually going to work.

50: Thanks for your work on this, Dusty. I hadn't thought of it until you said, but you're right: Holder's NOT the type to go down in flames without pointing a finger. Which in its own twisted way may in the end turn out to be the straw that breaks this double-humped camel's back for the good of all.

And you're also dead on, of course, regarding the parallels between the Nixon years and what's happening today.

Why do I keep thinking about Iran-Contra? Why do liberals have so much faith in government? Why does any of us?Maybe I am getting cynical in my old age.

Ghost32 profile image

Ghost32 Hub Author 8 months ago

I've thought of that as well, but it seems to me the premise behind Iran-Contra even made more sense than this mess.

Why do liberals have so much faith in government? Perhaps because they have so little faith in the individual.

Why does any of us? Not sure about that one; my personal faith in government is nonexistent.

When it comes to cynical...been that way since long before I hit old age.

It wasn't me you heard laughing over your typing. I put a gag in my mouth to muffle it, though, truly this is no laughing matter. I'm with you...no personal faith in government..better whisper that one...you know the "others" will say we're some sort of conspiracy theorists because we find fault with our gov't.

I'm not really good at whispering. Been thinking of getting a tee shirt printed:

"CONSPIRACY THEORIST AND PROUD OF IT!"

or

"SHEEP NEVER BELIEVE IN THE WOLF PACK CONSPIRACY UNTIL IT'S TOO LATE!"

That last one would only fit on the four-hundred pounders following the Michelle Obama diet, but that's still (so to speak) a sizeable market....
