Mr. President, We Are Not Your Pigeons

By Ghost32

While we understand we look the part to your narcissistic eyes, Mr. President, we are not your pigeons. You see us as feathered boobies whose nature is to be dependent on crumbs tossed on the asphalt for us to peck apart and squabble over. But we are more than that.

We are in fact a force unto ourselves, able to think, to organize without the need for guidance from a community organizer. We even know how to get along with each other--for the most part--without the need for a flash-bang at the front door or a SWAT team to gun us down in our own homes.

This concept is hard for you to believe, isn't it?

No, not hard...it's impossible for you to believe.

Barack Hussein Obama, you deny the American exceptionalism that is not only our heritage and our birthright but our key to flight. It is that special gift of living in this greatest nation on God's green Earth that allows us to soar on high at our own volition.

You don't like to see us soar. Oh, those special few whose piggy banks get stuffed with pork--there's a bit of irony--and who can rely on your vicious version of crony capitalism...those folks can fly if they're not too fat to get off the ground.

The rest of us? You'd clip our wings if you could.

See all 5 photos

We are not your pigeons, Mr. President. We're not sitting ducks, either. We the People are in fact wide awake, vigilant bulwarks against the tsunami of socialistic programs you've thrown (and continue to throw) against the shores of our unique and precious Constitutional Republic.

At the moment, we're watching the Republican primary season as it prepares to get under way next week in the Iowa Caucuses.

None of us need to watch you. We know what you're up to, your Obamacare and Czars and Solyndra, not to mention your refusal to fire Eric Holder outright over the Fast and Furious program. Which you most likely encouraged from the get-go; we get that.

No, there's no need to watch you with your class warfare and your continual shouts of "Play fair!"...which of course tranlates to, "Roll over and play dead!".

You, with your apologies and your bowing to foreign potentates, your dissing of Israel, your absolute disregard for the beyond-porous border situation. We know you indeed, to our hopefully short term sorrow.

We watch to see who will be our champion against the forces of the retrograde past, the challenger riding strong against the falsely labeled Progressives who would return us to the Dark Ages when true Liberty was nothing but a gleam in a future rebel's eye.

We watch.

Mr. President, we are not your pigeons--nor are we intimidated by your multibillion dollar war chest, your de facto ownership of the lamestream media, or even your victory lap following the termination of Osama Bin Laden. Rather, we are readying our flight plans as we prepare for liftoff, for spreading the word by air courier, word of mouth, and a thousand other methods: Remember in November.

When the exit polls query citizens, asking how they knew enough to place their ABO (Anybody But Obama) votes in such overwhelming numbers, many an answer will simply be:

"A little birdie told me."

Remember in November!

Becky: That's the idea. :)

My Minds Eye53: Thanks for the defense, but no big. I simply deleted maxoxam41's comments. As you know, my political Hubs are written as opinion pieces, not open public debate forums.

And it takes far less time for me to click on the Deny button than it does the opposition to type out a sentence (or two, or two hundred).

Good morning Ghost,

This line "We the People are in fact wide awake, vigilant bulwarks against the tsunami of socialistic programs you've thrown (and continue to throw) against the shores of our unique and precious Constitutional Republic." is one of the best lines I have read in long time...I think it sums it all quite well for many of us.

Great rant!

I find this post quite humerous. Eight years of Bush who dragged us into an unnecessary war for bogus reason, trashed our economy, trapmled our civil rights, told us to buy plastic and duct tape as a defense against biological warfare, and go shopping after 911 and now we want to blame the black guy because he didn't turn America into Shangrila in three short years. American exceptionalism indeed, you must be talking about football or basketball because we trail the rest of the world in most other aspects as a matter of fact we are becoming a third world nation. I am not defending Obama because I don't defend any politiciaan because they all belong to the same club. Exceptionalism...look around you man Rome is on fire and all of D.C. are playing the fiddle. Pigeons? try laboratory rats for the past forty years. With such a propensity toward hatred an talk of being pidgeons why didn't I read Karl Rove or Dick Cheneys name. This country will perish waiting for even one hero to surface in Washington D.C.

Awesome Hub, this write-up portrayed a calm pace, a sure resolve, a quiet passion, and the sort of focused intent that many (I suspect beyond us here on HubPages) will relate to and support.

The ending image for me (perhaps in a another Hub?) had a flock of pigeons soaring over BHO (you can imagine the picture - even better, you can draw the picture). After all, there are still many in the country who believe 'turnabout is fair play'.

Pamela99: No, he truly doesn't get it. The pictures do help a lot, or least so it seems to me. Took these of the flesh and blood pigeons yesterday in Sierra Vista.

moonstruck4ever: Thanks, Bobbi.

CMerritt: Thanks, Chris. If you liked the line that much, I may have to memorize it! :)

Abcedarian: I don't delete a comment just because the poster disagrees with me--you're quite welcome to simply state your opinion as you did. I only hit the Delete button when folks post nasty stuff. (That last one receiving the Deny/Delete treatment included numerous personal insults, and none of us need to put up with that.)

geordmc: He could probably read it, but perhaps you meant he couldn't UNDERSTAND it. Which is most likely true.

BPop: Does that perchance make us HIP...writing Hubs with Intensity and Passion?? :)

Glad you loved it.

mljdgullley: Thanks for the Up and Awesome. November can't come soon enough.

joe scalise: It would indeed be simpler to hit the Delete button for your post...but for whatever reason, I'm going to Approve it and actually respond this one time. After which you will have had your say, I'll have had mine, and I can hit the Delete button the NEXT time (if there is a next time).

By the numbers, then:

1. Whether or not the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan were unnecessary will be argued for decades if not longer. You're welcome to your opinion that they were unnecessary, and in fact I recall sucking in a VERY deep breath myself when I heard we were tackling Afghanistan, the legendary Graveyard of Empires.

2. I'm also not a fan of the Patriot Act in its entirety.

3. "Blame the black guy?" Hm. First of all, I don't recall using the word "blame". Dislike of his policies that have resulted in ever greater spending and the spreading takeover of life as we know it by big government, yes. Additionally, how is this a race issue? Obama is black because he says he is? He's half white whether he admits it on his census form or not.

3. American exceptionalism indeed. The examples of that exceptionalism in action are far too numerous to count, let alone to list here, but I'll mention one: HubPages itself is a sterling illustration. An entirely American creation, it provides writers from all over the world with a writing outlet no other website even comes close to matching. Writers are given freedom (with a very few understandable restrictions) to write whatever they want about whatever they want...while retaining complete control of their output, with the ability to entertain rowdy rhetoric or not as they please.

American exceptionalism indeed.

4. Lab rats? Perhaps, perhaps not. That's another analogy that can easily be argued from many angles.

5. ALL of D.C. is watching while we burn? No, that's simply not true. There are numerous D.C. heroes in action here and now; if you can't perceive their heroism, it's a matter of eyesight, nothing more.

6. Hatred? Ah, now THIS is the real reason I decided to respond to your post just this once: Any time a conservative states an opinion that disagrees with the radical agenda promoted by Progressives, said conservative is described as "hating" or a "hater".

But hate is no part of it. Detesting destructive policies does not require the dark, boiling emotion of hate to cloud the issues. So on that one especially, joe, I call B.S.--there is simply no basis in the wording of this Hub for the charge of hatred.

Enough for one comment. I'll be back to finish moderating the rest.

Jim: If we are so fortunate as to see Mr. Obama lose by a landslide on November 6, I'm sure some cartoonist will produce that one!

I totally agree with your opening paragraph, by the way. That summarizes where I'm "coming from" perfectly.

Don: Yes, definitely the temper of a dictator. We see that same negative quality in dictators around the world both past and present, beginning and ending with the credo, "Attack those who disagree and destroy them utterly.".

thewritinglife: Thanks. The odd thing is that I don't truly have a passion for politics. That is, my very strong preference would be to go about my business while ignoring politics altogether--and in fact, there have been entire decades where I did just that.

But I DO have a passion for the Dream that is America and a powerful determination to see that the next generations do not inherit nothing but the wind.

All right, so something in your response to Joe Scalise triggered a memory from the first days when Obama went into office. It WOULD be a bit racist if Obama were black, but as it is, you make the call.

A joke e-mail was circulating. It had the Obama's entering the White House to the tune from the old TV show 'The Jeffersons': 'Moving on Up'. But that wasn't the full joke. Worse, the thought occurred to me that a picture of pigeon's revenge that might circulate after Obama gets voted out in 2012 might end up having the same punch line as that e-mail that circulated in January 2009: A shocked Obama saying 'That shit ain't funny'.

joe scalise Level 3 Commenter 4 months ago

Hey Ghost, even though I don't think my response was inflammatory I am impressed that I wasn't deleted. I have on various site been deleted for exchanging vitriole with those who decided to attack me not my words and that was both conservatives and libs. I thank you for not attacking me and it doesn't bother me that you disagree with some of what I say. I guess I have been equaly deleted on other site because I have my own value system not based on any particular politician or party, although lately I like a lot of what Ron Paul says. I am going to respond even though I may not survive the deny button which wouldn't bother me because I don't post to change the world or anyones ideology. My posting, even on my own web site are therapuetic. I think because I am not one who will smile when my government, religions, special interests or political groups attempt to mount me from behind. Ok let's start.

1. The war was wrong on many levels and as far as history goes history is written by those in control at the time and rewritten by the media over the years. Intelligence was at the very least manipulated. WE wasted trillions of dollars persuing Bin Laden as an excuse to get Saddam out of our way. WE made Halliburton yet one more too big to fail entity. And lost more people and mamed so many others than did 911.

2.Godd to agree about our rights

3. Obama has his own failures as a president and I think he is worthless but I still won't saddle him with Bushs' dynamic faailures and perpetrations.

4. Ok not lab rats but expendable pawns betrayed by favoring illegal aliens and favored nation staus to COMMUNIST CHINA(we won't even buy a cigar from Cuba because they are communists.

5. As long as politicians are beholding to donations from the superwaelthy they are not going to care about the working class. And as long as lobbyists decide the fate of legislation special interests will run this country. Sorry I see no heroes.

6.I listen to enough talk shows to see the hatred ebing spewed. During the beginning of the war we were urged to hate the French for not wanting to invade Iraq. I heard people accused of being unpatriotic necause they didn't believe that patriotism is killing 100s of thousand innocent people.

You can delete me if you choose. It won't affect this world one iota. It may give some comfort to those with differing opinions but that in itself is a sad comentary.

I just noticed you had two #3s OK execptionalism yes in years past. There is no exeptionalism in failure and this country reeks of failure in everything except being able to kill people whose weaponry are loke sling shots next to ours. This Congress shows not even one ounce of exceptionalism all they no how to do is lastminute legislating. And the kast president that was close to exceptional was Ike because he saw what the future holds when you allow the industrial complex lead the milyary into conflicts. I'm done have a nice day

LOL! Most CERTAINLY not, I would think. Especially since ANYTHING is going to be regarded by objectionable by SOMEBODY, SOMEWHERE....

joe scalise Level 3 Commenter 4 months ago

Becky, what you are talking about is not a freedom given to me by this country it is a birth right which I would exercise anywhere in this world. The price you pay to exercise that right varies from nation to nation. I realize that in some countries you give your life and I am sure that their are people in America who have lost their lives over the right to speak. People have been ostricised, bankrupted, fired, purged from the military and even outed as a C.I.A. agent for exercising their right to give their opinion. Just because we have the right or freedom as you call it to say anything about our goverment doesn't mean we are free and that we are not oppressed and that we are safe in our homes or that you couldn't be snatched off the street and encarcerated without due process. We have lost our rights a little at a time. Speech could be next. Becky, did you know that if you tossed a frog in a pot of boiling water he would jump out but if you placed him in a pot of tepid water and raised the heat one degree a minute the frog would stay in the pot and cook. Well Americans are losing their rights one degree at a time........should we leap?

Ghost32 profile image

Joe, I'm going to respond on Becky's behalf--though of course she's more than welcome to put her own oar in the water whenever she stops by.

Most of us commenting on this page are KEENLY aware of the issues your raise here, including the slowly boiled frog bit. The individuals you'll find regularly commenting on my Hubs tend to be those who have already leaped...and who stand ready to encourage others to do so as well.

We all realize, too, that (as one writer put it so well), "We are all Jose Guerena.".

Yes, Ghost is right. I think the Patriot Act is very un-Patriotic also. We are rapidly losing our rights to government programs and I am fighting these. I also happen to know, very well, a girl who escaped from Cuba, just ahead of the hanging party. We do not have to worry about these rights yet and if I have anything to say about it, we will not have to.

I am terrified at the lack of quality in the current batch of Presidential candidates and REALLY wish Sarah would throw her hat in the ring. I believe we would have a good President with her. All we would need is for the Liberal media to give her a chance to say something without putting words in her mouth. They have already sunk Cain and he might have been good. They convicted him before the trial.

Becky, I just tonight spent an hour or so going through Rick Santorum's website--which I had not done in depth before, unless it's changed a whole lot just recently. Frankly, I was impressed. Can't say I liked EVERYTHING there, but he does have an in-depth plan for the economy and the right approach to Israel and Iran.

As you well know, I'm pro-Sarah first, last, and always--but of the existing crop of candidates, it's possible Santorum could suprprise us in a good way. He's got more depth than I gave him credit for.

joe scalise Level 3 Commenter 4 months ago

I am starting to enjoy this siteven though I think I am a lttle tougher on or expect more from candidates. See I couldn't give Palin a chance because she is all show with little aptitude. C"mon , at the very least I want my president well read and to know the location of foreign countries. Cain will be back but he does not have character. If he was truly innocent he would have welcomed a fight, stood his ground and entertained all questuons and slain the dragon on sight which tells me he is guilty. If the DEms were smart they would make Obama step down but they have no one with enough character and intellect either. I was listeningto Ron Paul and hw wants to cut all foreign aid, bring all the troops home and tebuild our country. Add even out the froeign trade and eliminate our trade deficit we are halfway home. I don't really see any statesneb out there and because all we ever get is recycled career politicians owned by special interset and a few newcomers with more money than brains the feild is empty. The problem with Americans is that we givecharismatic candidates the benefit of the doubt and they end up being liars.

Why would we vote Palin in when she already walked away from a job she was voted into? She is not dependable.

Ghost32 profile image

Ghost32 Hub Author 4 months ago

Joe: You have a point on the recycled politicians, etc.--but I'm not ready to judge Herman Cain guilty...and quite frankly wouldn't care if he was, either. One thing I figured out from studying the Bill Clinton years (and believe me, I was hardcore against Slick Wille long before Monica Lewinsky hit the news) is that marital infedility does not necessarily equate to bad President.

A view with which many of my closest friends will disagree vigorously.

My Minds Eye53: Have you read Going Rogue? Sarah explains her motivation and state of mind that produced her resignation, and her explanation makes total sense. Basically, the hardcore anti-Sarah apparatus followed her back to Alaska after the 2008 Presidential campaign and threw so much B.S. at her that the state's business (i.e. the Governor's office) was virtually shut down--NOTHING could get done.

So she made the decision to step aside--NOT as a "quitter" but (though she doesn't claim this) as a true statesman putting her state ahead of her own career. She handed the reins over to her Lt. Governor, Sean Parnell...and as soon as she led the attack dogs away from the Governor's position, he was able to get going on the agenda they'd both had from the beginning.

And he's done very well with it.

People who say Sarah's not dependable simply do not know Sarah.

"And it's not surprising then they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion..."

That is the disdain of a would-be tyrant.

FitnezzJim profile image

FitnezzJim Level 6 Commenter 4 months ago

Ghost, I too read 'Going Rogue' and I too was impressed by her explanation as to why she stepped aside as Governor of Alaska. You have expressed it eloquently.

Unfortunately, many who have opinions regarding the actions of politicians get those opinions from their friends, without any insight regarding the situation or of the rationale behind a particular action. When you are not capable of thinking for yourself, nor capable of reading for yourself, then that is part of being a good follower. You simply bleat out what your shepherd has told you to say.

FitnezzJim profile image

FitnezzJim Level 6 Commenter 4 months ago

By the way, Huntsman's comments this week, and a bit of reflection on the current pool of candidates have caused me to be of the opinion that Sarah Palin should run for President. As you know, for me, it is not about the issues. It is about whether our leaders will hold to principles that will cause them to put our Country first, and whether those principles are consistent with the principles of our founders.

joe scalise Level 3 Commenter 4 months ago

I want a little more than president who has principles. I want a president with more than four brain cells. We already had one who couldn't put three sentences together without getting a migrane. We also need a person who understands principles and doesn't cherry pick the ones from our forefathers that fit their agenda and bypass or manipulate those that may contradict their agenda. I also think it is important to have read a newspaper or magazine somewhere along the way to adulthood. And I have to say that I think everyone in political office should know where our allies and enemies live on the map. I certainly wouldn't want to carpet bomb the wrong country the may or may not have weapons of mass destruction. I don't know the real reason Palin left office but it sure made room for her to make money on her hit and miss national tour and her outdoorswoman specials. I am looking for a reason to vote in this coming election and the closest I can find is Ron Paul and now people want to water down the mix with another double digit IQed who really doesn't know her way around. Fitnezz when I read wnat you wrote about what hasppens when people can't read or think for themselves that they are led around like sheep, I immediately thought about Rush Limbaugh ending his Friday show telling people to not read the papers or listen to the news because he would be back on monday to tell them what they need to know. That's how we end up with double digit IQs in government.

Ghost32 profile image

Ghost32 Hub Author 4 months ago

Will: Agreed. Tyrannosaurus Wrecks...which sounds like the title of my next Hub, come to think of it.

Jim: Yes, and I've never understand that "shepherd knows best" mindset at the emotional level. I know it's true for so many, but the "sense" of it continues to escape me.

As for "issues or principles", it seems to me the issues arise OUT OF the principles (or lack thereof). As in, "Hey, dude, you're messin' with one of my principles, and I take issue with that!"

Huntsman...has from the beginning my "gag me with a spoon" candidate.
