Memorable Political Quotes : Democrats 2010

The Unforgettables

As we head toward the midterm elections on November 2, it's easy to write a new article every day...but sometimes ya just gotta clean out the files. Which I did tonight...but a number of Democrat-weird quotes surfaced in one tray. Some of them have been included in previous hubs, others have not--but they deserved a page of their own before being consigned to the trash.

Here they are:

1. Pete Stark, (Rep.) California, responding to a serious question about securing the border from a constituent who is also a Minuteman: "How many people are you going to kill today?"

2. Raul Grijalva, (Rep.) Arizona, turning his back and walking away from a young reporter who had simply asked if he was interested in securing the border: "That's punkish."

3. President Barack Obama, responding to a question about health care from a lady in his backyard get-together audience: "What you're worried about...you shouldn't be worried about it."

4. Harry Reid, (Sen.) Nevada, regarding Hispanic Republicans: "I don't know how anyone of Hispanic heritage could be a Republican. Do I need to say more?"

[Nah, Harry, that should do it.]

5. Keith Ellison, (Rep.) Minnesota and our country's first Muslim Congressman, speaking on the growing opposition to the Ground Zero Mosque: ":...The real driver of it are people who openly proclaim that Barack Obama is not a citizen. The real organizers of this thing are people who are just proponents of religious bigotry...."

Hmmm.... Way too many in this file to include here. How about just five more, round it out at a total of ten? But first, a photographic break. (Note:Ellison was arrested for protesting in front of the Sudanese Embassy in 2009, not for robbing a bank or anything like that...)

Keith Ellison in wire ties. Standard Democrat Congressional attire?

Moving Right Along

6. Charlie Rangel, (Rep.) New York, explaining why he's running for office yet again at age 80 despite facing serious ethics charges: "When the President said he wanted me to end my career in dignity, he didn't put a time limit on it."

7. Barbara Boxer (Sen.) California, referring to the San Francisco earthquake: "But of course, those who died, their lives will never be the same again."

8. Barney Frank (Rep.) Massachusetts, on minorities: "I'm used to being in the minority. I'm a left-handed gay Jew."

9. Max Baucus (Sen.) Montana, on (apparently) movie actresses: "I've always been a huge fan of Julia Roberts. Without her, what would the world be like?"

[Really, Max? Julia Roberts? Sarah Palin, maybe; I could see that--especially after We the People elect her President in 2012--but Julia Roberts? Huh!]

10. Ken Salazar, Secretary of the Interior (and lifetime opponent of drilling for either oil or natural gas pretty much anywhere) on identity theft: "Each and every Notary Public plays a crucial role in combating identity theft."

[Yep, they're crucial, all right. Oh, Ken, did you know you can order a Notary Stamp with any name on it you like with any state seal on it you like on the Internet?  Cheap, too.]

Okay, folks, there ya go. Enjoy. But do also, please...

Remember in November.

Heh. My personal favorite (from this page) is actually Charlie Rangel's. Reminds me of a teenager explaining why he stayed out drunk till dawn, finding a "crack" in the way Dad explained his curfew before he left the house.

As for pro-life, my wife is...and I'm getting there. Have always been pro-choice in the past (me) and still am to some degree, but the late term and partial birth situations are wa-ay outside my comfort zone, so....

And I've NEVER believed in using federal funds for abortions...or any OTHER health care despite Pam having been on Medicaid when we met. Just not the feds' business.

As part of Remember in November, looks like I'll be "volunteer-drafted" to help out at the polls on Nov. 2, also. Or at least close to 'em, handing out cards, politiciking just outside the legal boundary limits, that sort of thing....

Love your quotes Ghost.

One of my favs, that is not on this list, is Barbara Boxer telling Brigadier General Michael Walsh that she worked hard for her title. Like the general didn't?

Yep,Boxer's got a ton of 'em for sure. And of course, we probably shouldn't forget Nancy Pelosi telling the nation, "We need to pass this Bill so we can find out what's in it."

Oh, and shame on me for leaving Joe Biden out of the loop. Who else would tell a guy in a wheelchair (Missouri Senator Chuck Graham), "Chuck, stand up, let the people see you."

You should of included some Republican quotes in too. Being all 1 sided, is like shooting yourself in the foot.

Rafken, if this were a news piece, that would be exactly right--but it's an opinion piece, and my opinion is that I thoroughly enjoy skewering Democrats while cheering for the Republicans to both get back to their roots AND take back America from the destructive Socialist track it's been following in a headlong rush under Obama the Not So Great.

However, that doesn't mean YOU couldn't write a piece with Republican quotes--have at it!

Also, please note: EVERY partisan political activist, on the Left or on the Right, is one sided...and I'm as partisan as they come.

Ghost32. That is true. I am not from the US and so don't care either way. I was just commenting. I thought the hub was more about humor than politics, my bad.

Nothing bad, Rafken. Easy mistake, especially considering the nature of some of the quotes! I'm actually flattered that you saw it in that light.

Good job!

"We need to pass this Bill so we can find out what's in it." I think this little Pelosi gem will go down in history, as exactly what I can't be sure, but it won't be flattering!

Yes, that one is definitely a classic.
