Making Obama A One-Term President : The Maytag Repair Manual
71The Spin Cycle
These days, President Barack Hussein Obama puts a reelect-me spin on every piece of legislation that passes Congress--whether or not it is good law, and whether or not he wanted the law in the first place. He's like a Maytag washing machine gone terribly wrong: The spin cycle is too much, too fast. It's not just America's clothing but also her money, her reputation, and her national security that are being laundered--or, more accurately, taken to the cleaners.
Fortunately, We the People have called that little-used, lonely Maytag repairman of olden days. In a small way, that repairman would be...me. This hub will serve as something seldom seen in Maytag--or American political--circles: An anti-spin cycle.
Here's how it works:
1. As soon as each new law is passed, often before Obama has even signed it into law, he's spinning that passage to rewrite history in his favor.
2. We're going to document that in itemized fashion, listing each of these legislative results and pointing out the differences between what Obama and his Zombies (including most of the media) are saying...and the facts of the case.
3. When 2012 rolls around, Obamanation will be loudly proclaiming his version of these here's-how-I-won-when-that-law-was-passed fairy tales. This page--and others to follow at need--wil come right behind, puncturing all those B.S. balloons with extremely sharp pins.
4. Those who need ammunition for conservative Republican campaigns will be able to call up a single source--The Maytag Repair Manual pages--and have at their fingertips enough ammunition to blow Democrat opponents including Obama himself right out of the water in any public debates that may take place.
Ambitious? Oh, yeah.
The Tax Compromise
1. When Obama blindsided his own party with a Tax Compromise hammered out between the Prez and Republicans behind closed doors, neither left nor right was happy about it. The key for 2012 candidates to remember is this: After Obama swore seven ways from sin that he'd never back away from raising tax rates on Americans earning more than $250,000 per year, he did in the end do just that. Now he's running around, claiming credit for doing what he was forced to do by Republicans...and Democrats are promoting the wondrous value of the Bush tax cuts! Democrat vulnerability 2012: Position reversal.
Don't Ask, Don't Tell
2. This repeal of the Clinton-era law requiring gay men and women to stay firmly in the closet is...troubling. It was the politically correct thing to do--which may turn out to be the worst thing that could have been done. The Marine commandant stated, very carefully, that knowing the guy next to you in a foxhole is gay could be a "dangerous distraction".
A young relative of mine, having served three tours in Iraq during his six years as a Marine, was not so constrained. "I hope it doesn't happen," he told me, "But I'll bet a dollar to a donut hole that 'frag a fag' is already a new motto in the Corps." Let's all hope it doesn't happen. Democrat vulnerability 2012: If all goes well, no advantage--and we'll heave huge sighs of relief, happy to have been wrong. If there are serious problems that make the news, then: Obama (and all of those who voted for repeal) should have listened.
New START Treaty
3. This giveaway, effectively tying our hands defensively while gaining nothing, is purely bad law. Or will be, presuming today's vote in the Senate goes as expected. Enough Republicans have indicated their willingness to be either stupid enough or traitorous enough that passage is expected. Obama will be trumpeting the wonders of having gained a new arms control treaty with the Russians--in fact, he's already doing so. Democrat vulnerabilty 2012: Twelve serious flaws in the treaty as documented by the Heritage Foundation.
Sarah Palin could have written a better treaty, but then, her house is really close to Russia. Ask Tina Fey.
Healthcare For Heroes
4. December 22, 2010: In its last act prior to shutting down once and for all, the Lame Duck Congress passed the bill that (a) provides healthcare for those who were exposed to nasty sickness-makers on 9-11 and in its aftermath, and (b) opens up the fund that was set up to provide compensation to the families of victims.
At the moment, everyone seems to be sighing in relief and heading home...but that could (and very well may) change. It wouldn't be surprising, come campaign time, to see Obama claiming he "forced" hard-hearted Republicans to pass this bill. If he does, there are a couple of things for conservative candidates to remember as comebacks:
The initial delay in passing this measure was only due to attempts by the Democrats to cram it through ahead of tax and budget issues (which Republicans rightly felt had to come first for the economic stability of the entire nation), and (if our folks want to go there) families of the civilian dead will now receive far more money than is ever paid to survivors of an American soldier killed in combat. Democrat vulnerability 2012 : Attempting to game the system.
The Food Safety And Modernization Act: Obamasnare
5. Horrible, horrifying legislation. It truly is an Obamasnare, as bad as or worse than Obamacare, a pure power grab designed to give the federal government absolute control over every every stick of celery or bowl of dip consumed at the smallest family party. If this ever gets funded before it gets repealed, we're toast--to be consumed, of course, by endless seas of boondoggle bureaucrats. Democrat vulnerability 2012: Enslaving American citizens.
Until The Next Item....
We'll keep adding to this page as new laws are passed that Obama can use for bragging purposes in 2012. Additionally, those laws which are good laws passed by Congress and vetoed by the President will be chronicled here as well. How many separate pages will that require between now and Election Day 2012?
Who knows?
One thing is clear, however. Perhaps for the first time, candidates and supporters in a Presidential election year will have a Ready Reference enabling them to counter all those smear ads with the most effective weapon known to humankind: Just the facts, Ma'am. Until now, it's been virtually impossible for any individual to remember all of the legislative B.S. from one month to the next. Truly terrible laws have been ignored with considerable regularity, and more than a few false claims have gone unchallenged.
But not this time...and not on my watch.
Remember in November 2012.

Ghost, nice piece of work as usual. Keep it up my friend, the more truth that gets out the better we will all be. I'm sure not everyone will agree with what you have to say, but that is to be expected.
2012 can't come soon enough. I can't believe the damage this lame duck Congress has done. Shame on everyone who was apart of it. They have sold our country to the highest bidder, probably destroyed our military and punished successful people who want to take care of their families. What a legacy. Voted up and awesome!
Great idea to keep a tally that we can refer back to, Ghost!
Keeping a running tally is a great idea. Finding a way to get it the distribution and readership it needs may be a bit more difficult.
Great Hub, may it be revisited many times.

It's a pity you didn't do this for the 8 years George Bush was ruining the country
