Janet Contreras Vs. Ed Pastor : The Border War

By Ghost32

Issue Number One

First of all: It is a war. There is a reason Janet Contreras lists Securing The Border first on her campaign website as she works to unseat nine-term incumbent Ed "Progressive" Pastor....just as there is a reason Pastor is on record as favoring amnesty and wide open borders. To clarify:

Ed has stated simply that he believes illegal immigrants are a net boon to our nation--okay, that's slightly paraphrased; his precise wording was "net benefit". Janet approaches every issue with much deeper thought than that, but one sentence from her website discussion of border issues does underscore the problem rather well:

"Every sad story of illegal immigrants being deported can be matched with a story of illegal immigrants committing violent felonies, like murder and rape."

You tell 'em, Janet. Hopefully, lots of readers will visit your site (click on the link above) to check out the full text of what you have to say on this topic so crucial to not only Arizona but to the entire country. As Sarah Palin clearly understood you had the "right stuff" when she endorsed your candidacy. In the meantime, a personal insight....

My wife and I live in Cochise County near Palominas, Arizona, just one mile from the Mexican border. In addition to plenty of northbound foot traffic hoofing it through the eastern edge of our property, mostly in the dead of night, we get occasional "special treats" in the form of air traffic.

Last year, this was for some months a weekly happening, regular as (literally) clockwork. Somewehere between 9:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. each Wednesday evening, well after dark but well before midnight, we'd hear a light plane--a really light plane, most certainly a single engine Piper or Cessna or whatever's the rage these days--pass overhead. Not quite overhead, actually, not buzzing our camp trailer, but no more than 100 yards to the east. We figured the pilot was using my 40 watt lamp, shining through the uncurtained window as I sat typing articles like this one, as a reliable landmark.

Drugs and/or a cartel boss headed to a meeting.

The following night (Thursday) at around the same time, the airborne smuggler would return, southbound, on precisely the same flight track.

Guns and/or a cartel boss returning from a meeting.

We've detected the night flyer's passage less frequently since moving into the Border Fort I built single handed...but did notice him headed north last Sunday evening at his "standard" time. These walls are thick, and it's much easier to ignore stray sounds from outside. Additionally, my office in the Fort is in the northwest corner...and that same 40 watt lamp gives a northbounder no help at all, especially with the room-darkening blinds closed.

It is a war, people...and the voters in Arizona CD4 are waking up fast, just like the voters across the rest of America the Beautiful. It is a war, and Ed Pastor is--knowingly or not--on the wrong side. Janet Contreras is the George Washington of Phoenix...while Ed Pastor has been cast, knowingly or not, in the role of Benedict Arnold.

In Closing

The most dangerous part of any assault, from the recipient's viewpoint, is before realization dawns that an attack is even taking place. General George Armstrong Custer was known to the Lakota and Cheyenne peoples as Son of the Morning Star because of his preference for bringing his Seventh U.S. Cavalry down on sleeping Indian villages just at first light--in other words, just when his victims were letting their guard down. When they began to relax, believing they'd made it through one more dark, dangerous night. When he and his Long Knives had all day to finish their butchering before night fell once again.

We in America today--and Arizona CD4 is no exception--are facing that most dangerous hour. From Obama, Pelosi, and Reid to Giffords, Grijalva, and Pastor, the Progressives are vigorously swinging their Long Knives as they seek to disembowel our Constitution, eliminate our southern border entirely, and herd us en masse onto the Welfare Reservation.

Fortunately, I believe our nation is going to avoid that worst case scenario...by, among other things, electing true Constitutional conservatives all across this land on November 2, among them Janet Contreras from Arizona CD4.

Ghost - great hub and I do believe you're right bout it being an all out war. One that I think is fixing to intensify in the near future, Hope I'm wrong, but keep up the good work lad!

Ghost - Great job. The problem I see is most Americans don't realize this war is starting in our own backyard. This war is not an ocean away or halway around the planet where all we do is see some pictures on the news, and get a few comments from the talking heads. WAKE UP AMERICA - This is OUR war and you will be affected by it.

Thanks for the comments, guys.

Hmrjmr1, I agree: In the short term, this war is most likely to intensify--perhaps dramatically so. Lock and load.

Old Poolman, part of the challenge we face (as you obviously understand quite well) is that those talking heads--at least on the "lamestream media", as Sarah Palin terms it all too accurately--are mostly in the enemy camp. I don't believe all, or even most, of them realize this; it's more like Neville Chamberlain at one time being hailed as a hero in Great Britain...before even the densest Brit had to realize Chamberlain had been an absolute, pie-in-the-sky idiot.

And the war is at every level when it comes to politics. Here in Cochise County, "they" are doing all they can to get us (the voters) to approve a Water Board on November 2. They may even succeed, because I've so far seen few signs that citizens other than Tea Party types are aware that (a) it would be absolutely redundant and (b) it would wrest all local control of even private wells on private property away from the owners.

Remember in November.

Thanks for introducing "Joyce"! Wonderful tune, wonderful lyrics, awesome message. I've heard of "Contreras" and "Pastor" but know little of them. I'm headed for an education on them once I click the post comment button. Short, sweet and to the point this hub was. Looking forward to more. I myself, have been in AZ, living in Mesa and working out of Phoenix, for about 2yrs. I came from the east coast with a little reseach on the area before I stepped into the desert. That research was irrelevant after a day or two of observing the area. There's a feeling of containment and fear in the air down here. The folks in Arizona aren't nearly as open and comfortable in public as back on the east coast. Its a different world down here, it truly is "The Modern Day Wild Wild West"! I could go on and on I suppose, but maybe I'll write a related hub of my own. From the perpective of being an immigrant from another state, not another country. Though sometimes it doesn't "feel" like the country I grew up in! Stay safe down there, God Bless!

Thanks for commenting, Jeremy, and yes--please do write your own related hub.

I first met Joyce at the Arizona Border Rally, which was staged just 5 miles from our home last August. She's definitely a committed patriot and an impressive singer/songwriter. When she had equipment problems, it didn't stop her; she just stepped up to the mike and sang a capella. Awesome.

As for the sense if containment & fear you mention...when Phoenix is ranked with the highest per capita number of kidnapping events in the entire North American continent (behind only Mexico City)...how else could it be?

Anyway, your comment made my day. Every one of my political hubs is about voter education, so for you to say you're headed directly to bone up on the candidates...nice.
