2012 Presidential Campaign Issues : #7 : The Free Stuff Syndrome

60

By Ghost32

Motivation: Due to both the passage of time and the sheer number of issues at stake during the 2012 Presidential election campaign, it's all too easy to "forget stuff". In this series, we hope to provide a set of reminder pages for handy reference in the runup to Election Day.

There is no free lunch.

"Gimme! Gimme! Gimme!" Folks are saying here and there

As they worry 'bout the rich among us paying their fair share

They want the government to take from me and you to parcel out

Their own enslavement clearly written as they've given up their clout

They do not understand at all, this gimme-gimme bunch

We do not take it lightly when we say there's no free lunch

Anyone who's ever learned about how life works on the street

Knows when a pusher wants to get you hooked, the first drug's always free

======================================================

It works the same with the Progressives with Obama at their head

Just take the so-called freebies; never question where you're led

Food stamps have been around a while, and now Obama Phones

Help drug dealers duck the coppers as they help you get your jones

We've seen so many ads out there, especially on Yahoo

About Obama wanting personally to send you back to school

If you suck into the freebie-trap, get happy with the dole

Never mind about the USA; consider your own role

See all 2 photos

There's the contraceptive giveaway that only asks of all

To ignore their silly consciences, let Soul take its own fall

There's the meal-with-Barack sweepstakes where you get a mighty chance

To munch a burger with the Prez--but hey, sorry, no lap dance

Remember how your happiness was lifted up and buoyed

When they rammed through Obamacare, you gimme types rejoiced

Conditions preexisting would no longer make you pull your hair

What looks like benefit to you, paid by cuts in Medicare

===================================================

Let's not forget unemployment, set at ninety weeks and nine

Near two full years of Sam's "free money" sit you on the couch to whine

The more enslaved the population, the happier Barack

If he gets enough folks taking freebies, we don't get our country back

Now we know that every parent with an adult child at home

Should relate to what we're saying: Leave so-called free stuff alone

And if you are that younger person and you think the world owes you

Just accept lifetime enslavement; that's the future, telling true

What? You say that I am heartless and I surely do not care

About the down and out among us planted here and planted there?

But the opposite is true when you analyze the risk

I care to see you free from thinking free stuff really does exist

Those who strive to see Obama go down crashing in the fall

Know he won't teach you how to fish or be productive--not at all

Instead, he'll steal ten fish from me and others hard at work

Feed nine of them to friends and give you one--it's such a perk

====================================================

But even if you'd like to see the wealthy fairly ripped

You need to understand it's you the government has gypped

Those of us conservatives cannot be truly had

We'll find a way to earn our pay even when it's truly bad

But if you're accepting freebies, be you husband or be wife

You're giving up your power, no more running your own life

Talking to the social workers, giving answers that they seek

That's all it should take to show you: Truly freedom is not free

Remember in November!

While I disagree with your views on these issues. I can't help but enjoy your rhyming about it. The real enslavement that's happening is the working class who dream about getting ahead, but the rich will never let the working class enjoy that carrot.

Fred it appears that some of your visitors have not learned that a given skillset can only earn so much value in the marketplace. It's called competition for the worker and the skill. If one wants more money...get more skills, experience, and ability or else go out and create your own entreprenaurial risk experience and pray you come out ahead. Sitting around bitching that someone you see as "rich" owes you part of that wealth just because you call yourself part of the "working class" carries no logic, Phillydreamer. I can predict this...you will be very happy under the "utopia" which Obama wants to create...at least for a while, until it becomes obvious to you that there are far more snouts in the trough at mealtime than there are working people out on the line when it comes time to produce things which support the "utopia". That is the reality behind the failure of the socialis state....uh, "utopia". WB

Ah, Fred -- very clever again and right! Pigs at the trough are a good analogy. Keep 'em comin' -- it needs to be said. Voted up! Best/Sis

The mainstay of liberalism is the declaration that anyone who does not support their socialism 'doesn't care'.

In the meantime, study after study has shown that conservatives are far more generous to charities than liberals, who think it's government's job, not theirs, to care for the needy.

No I admit some people are lazy, but that doesn't mean their life isn't any less valuable and they should be left to starve to death on the street. It takes time to develop new skills especially when people want to charge to learn those skills. How is a person to learn anything when they are out of work and have no money. The answer is what you call handouts. If people with money want to stop getting taxed so heavily, I suggest they start looking at the problem more clearly.

Fred - Had me thumpin' and bumpin'. Seems your first commenter hasn't grasped what it takes to succeed yet. It isn't putting your paw out and expecting Uncle Sugar to fill er up. It's all about hard work, perseverance and getting the government the hell out of the way.

There is NO free lunch. Some one is paying for it.

This hub made me a follower, Ghost. First one of yours I've read but if the rest are anything like this one then I will not be disappointed. I can't thank you enough for writing these in preparation of the election; however, I'm afraid you have a better chance of your light excaping the center of a black hole than to penetrate the opaque minds of socialistic liberals. Yes, a citizenry enslaves themselves with the gimme attitude and belief because it violates God's command to not steal from others: one person works hard to earn it, but then is coerced to give it to someone who did not earn it.

PHILLYDREAMER: Thanks for dropping by. However, while I do understand to SOME degree where you're coming from, I disagree that the working man has no chance at advancement beyond being a wage slave. (This could get lengthy, y'all--fair warning.)

As an oilpatch worker observing many companies operating at many drilling locations in several diffferent states, I noticed that the industry tends to promote from within. For example, the "worm" often becomes a veteran foor hand, then works on up to various positions--derrick hand, mud hand, tool pusher, driller.

None of these pay low wages. Toward the upper tiers listed here, quite a few are earning in excess of $100,000 per year.

The next jump "on location" would be the company hand, which is a whole 'nother kettle of fish--and quite a few of those men also started out in the jobs mentioned above.

Then there is the huge service contracting field surrounding the rigs themselves. My Colorado employer started as a company driver, was eventually able to purchase his own truck, and worked up from there to running a fleet of 60-plus power units and that many more subcontractors.

In my own case, I was on track to follow that pattern--had arranged to buy my first truck--when Obama was elected and the bottom fell out.

Point being: In America as we have known it and prefer it, upward mobility is NOT "capped" or suppressed by "the corporations", but only by the self-imposed limitations within the mind of the individual.

Wayne: Thanks, and for the rest of it: What you said.

Alex & Sis: Appreciate your input!

Will: Exactly. Most of us on the right just quietly take care of business without spouting off about it. At least, that's generally true of the conservatives I've known to date.

Frog: You summed up nicely as always, Jim. Thanks.

Caleb: Welcome! And...my combo of optimism and determination isn't up against a wall quite as opaque as you might think.

That is, I'm fully aware that the "deep libs" aren't listening. Nor is that going to happen. BUT they're not my target audience, either.

Instead, I'm reaching out to those who ALMOST GOT IT, maybe questioning their upcoming November vote but unsure if they're unease with Obama is out of bounds or not. And there are plenty of those; it's downright impressive how many people I've talked to who voted for Obama in 2008 but aren't likey to do so this time.

So, instead of a "black hole", try thinking of the audience as a big, juicy carrot. I made up a bowl of chicken salad last night with a stalk of thin-sliced celery and most of a humongo carrot in there. AWESOME end product. To get the carrot's contribution, I didn't slice through the thing--but used a simple steak knife to SHAVE the thing, letting carrot juice fly about the kitchen in the process.

Obama only won the nation by an average of 6% in 2008. I believe we (the opposition in total) can shave more than 6% off his carrot this time around.

Anilkumar cv: Interesting. Truthfully, there are literally millions of us in the USA who wish he WAS your citizen.

Great hub and for those who think that Obama is paying for you to go to school, it isn't so. I am going to school and those student loans are going to cost me for years. I also have the same as GI school benefits. I got that because my husband is a totally disabled veteran. It cost me already. The health and sanity of my husband.

Yes, those "Obama wants you to go to school" ads are TOTALLY misleading.

Not to mention to fact that my skin crawls at that opening, "Obama wants you to...." Anyone whose hackles don't automatically go over that one is already in trouble.
