2012 Presidential Campaign Issues : #6 : Crony Capitalism

63

By Ghost32

Motivation: Due to both the passage of time and the sheer number of issues at stake during the 2012 Presidential election campaign, it's all too easy to "forget stuff". In this series, we hope to provide a set of reminder pages for handy reference in the runup to Election Day.

"What the heck is crony capitalism?" A young voter asked of me

Now of course I needed a snappy response that would let that person see

What the term means on the political scene as we head toward the election

In a way that could be understood and that would pass cerebral inspection

So I thought a while, stalled behind a smile while I put my thoughts in order

Then I reminded my friend about his Aunt Jen, a notorious money hoarder

Jen's old and phony and terribly bony but she's got a couple million bucks

They say she stole as a younger lot lizard from stupid men in long haul trucks

=====================================================

But now she's got hers, she'll hand out money to the nephews that she likes

And call in favors both left and right to get them free trucking rides

While those who refuse to get their noses brown are hassled at every turn

Remember (I told the young man) when she called the cops just to get you burned?

I could see the fire in his eyes when I said that; the topic Jen always gets him going

In fact, as his aunt is to him, so Uncle Sam is to Boeing

Obama got mad when Boeing checked out of a labor union heavy state

So the government sued the company for making the Prez irate

But now that she's got hers, she'll hand out money to the nephews that she likes.

On the other side of the ledger, Solyndra, and other corporations called Green

Are given bags and bags of our taxpayer dollars no matter how much we scream

Now we've got Uncle picking winners and losers in everything we do these days

If your wife gets seizures from flourescent lights, go back to living in unlit caves

'Cause if we don't throw the bums out this autumn, incandescent bulbs are no more

It was Bush who signed that one like an idiot, but now Obama is minding the store

They rained tons of money on General Motors to produce the new Chevy Volt

Just 25 miles to a full-on charge, electric car for the absolute dolt

======================================================

Subsidies here and subsidies there and still sales are icier than cold

Forty-seven-five for that high tech lemon and only 600 sold

Plus, let's take a quick look at Obamacare, shared coverage and sacrifice

Yet Obama exempted himself from his signature law; that doesn't seem very nice

In the mind of the crony capitalist, rules are made only for others

Punish your enemies, reward your friends, build a group of dollar-bound lovers

Never in the history of the government have we been hammered near this hard

Barack helps Al Gore and a few dozen more, treats the rest of us like rendered lard

Feel a storm coming on, Mr. President? Do ya? Huh? Do ya?

Remember in November!

Fred -- loved it! Your expertise with words never fails to amaze me -- nor your insight as to what's happening in this crazy world. Voted up absolutely! Best/Sis

Not only can you articulate the issues, but to do so in rhyme is well----awesome.

What is it? Solyndra? Government Motors? Chrysler? You want me to go on?

Ed: Thanks.

Sis: I believe my "expertise with words" may be improving as we go along. Could be the combination of (a) beating myself about the head and shoulders to get a Hub out every day, minimum, and (b) still and always reading a lot AND a wide variety of material. Pick up hints from other writers.

BPop: For me, it's sometimes actually easier in rhyme. Not always, but sometimes.

Frog: You've maybe seen the movie, Neverending Story? (I hadn't...until I met Pam. It's her all time favorite. Because of the Luck Dragon, methinks.)

Well, this--if we catalogued ALL the applicable companies--would be the Neverending List.

I like Pam's taste in movies. I have that one and the sequel on the same DVD. Love it too. I liked this one, I understood it and with your never ending play with words, you have managed to make it fun.

Let's hope so. I've got a hunch that younger voters will "get it" quicker through "fun" than through "fear". (Never mind my most recent in this series, #8, which addresses fear directly.)
